Advanced Illumination backlights provide an area of uniform illumination, oriented behind the object of interest, primarily for creating a part silhouette of instant contrast between dark and light. It is most useful for edge detection, part location/orientation or presence/absence, hole detection and object gauging.
Notable models include:
Edge-lit: The BX Series Edge-lit backlights offer high brightness with low heat output. This product comes in the most common wavelengths and offers expandable sizes up to 24" by 24".
Back-lit: The BL Series has a back-lit array of LEDs with a planar. The light features a low-profile design for flexibility in your applications and custom size and power options.
UltraSeal IP69K: The BL245 Series are IP69K certified to withstand harsh environments like high-pressure steam and liquid immersion.
Collimated: The CB Series is designed for precision silhouetting and supports applications like glass and plastic defect detection, thread inspection and printed circuit board (PCB) hole accuracy.
These bar lights offer both bright field and dark field illumination, depending on angle of incidence with respect to the object of interest. Because of the variety of lengths available, bar lights can also be used in replacement of Spot or Ring Lights when greater intensity is required.

Daisy-Chainable: EuroBrite™ bar lights offer high illumination and built-in control for strobe and continuous modes. Daisy chain up to four lights for a length of up to 48".
High Current: MicroBrite™ and LL Series bar lights support high-current applications with a range of wavelengths and expandable sizes.
High Dispersion: AL Series lights offer high dispersion lighting for short working distances and reflective surfaces.
Narrow & Wide: The AL Series also features narrow and wide versions to meet illumination requirements for your application.
IP69K: UltraSeal bar lights withstand corrosive washdown environments, high-pressure steam and liquid immersion.
Coaxial Lights provide a type of diffuse illumination, generated from an internal source. The light is then deflected downward onto the imaging plane via a 50% beamsplitter, which also allows light from the object to be collected by the camera above. Ideal for imaging highly reflective objects or where the area of inspection is obscured by shadows from its surroundings.
Heat sinks and other thermal management technology
Diffuse lighting, also known as “cloudy-day illumination” provides non-directional, soft illumination that is free of shadowing. This effect is well suited for inspecting highly specular, and curved objects, but at close working distances.
Flat Domes: FD and FX Series diffuse lights have a flat, space-saving design with illumination made for highly reflective objects.
Domed Illuminators: A range of dome light sizes allows for inspection of rough, reflective, specular and topographic surfaces.
Micro Sizes: Compact sizes like the extra small and small dome light save space in various applications. The small dome light also offers a three-channel, RGB configuration.
Extra Large Sizes: The DL071 Large Area diffuse light provides illumination over an 18" square for larger workpiece applications.
Line lights: Wide linear diffuse lights support the inspection of cylindrical and elongated objects and function well in multi-camera setups. Narrow linear lights offer precision scanning for highly reflective materials.
LED Line Lights, as opposed to linear array bar lights, employ a secondary lens to focus the light into a narrow beam, typically for short to intermediate working distances, and are mostly used in conjunction with line scan cameras.

Dark field ring lights provide illumination that is projected at a shallow angle to the imaging surface, 45 degrees or less. Typical applications include reflective flat surface defect or edge detection. Bright field ring lights provide illumination directly onto an object, at angles of incidence above 45 degrees from horizontal, creating distinct shadows or general purpose illumination depending on subjects features.

Spot Lights are typically characterized as general-purpose illuminators. They may be used to create both bright field and dark field effects, depending on the light angle of incidence. Working distances can be short to long, depending on available intensity and beam spread. Available in large, compact and micro sizes these high intensity spot lights are beneficial when deployed in tight spaces.

The DCS Series Controllers from Advanced Illumination provide Lighting Control Flexibility in a compact, slim 115 mm x 122 mm and only 22 mm wide package. Seamless switching from continuous-on to gated on/off and strobe overdrive; 3 independently configurable trigger inputs. 1 output, 3 channels – designed to drive multi-channel RGB / segment lights, as well as single higher current draw lights.
DCS triple output controller provides seamless switching from continuous-on to gated on/off and strobe overdrive; 3 independently configurable trigger inputs. 3 Independent Outputs – designed to drive up to 3 lights, synchronously or asynchronously.
Quad Controller provides control for computational imaging, including photometric stereo, extended depth of field, combined bright field + dark field, high dynamic range, and high resolution color. It includes built-in preprogramming sequencing, 4 independent channels and 1 output connector.
With 8 independent channels and 2 output connectors the Quad X2 Controller is ideal for multi-channel lights and multi-light stations. Housed within a compact enclosure with DIN rail mounting it is driven with SignaTech for improved safety and easy operation.
The ICS2 inline current source provides steady and optimal current to lights from a small package when a larger, more flexible external controller is not necessary. Provides continuous-on and DC gating on/off control as well as 0-10 volt analog dimming. 30 uSec response time.
The ICS3 & 3S inline current source provides steady and optimal current to lights from a small package when a larger, more flexible external controller is not necessary. Switching between continuous-on, gating on/off and strobe overdrive is seamless. The iCS 3 and iCS 3S employ Ai’s exclusive Adaptive Overdrive that optimizes strobe power regardless of input Pulse Width. The iCS 3 is a default-on device on power-up, whereas the iCS 3S is a default-off device, requiring a trigger to illuminate.
With a software-based interface the compact Pulsar 320 provides the ultimate in lighting control flexibility for strobe-only, high power requirement applications. 2 outputs for controlling 2 lights independently, each capable of 50A @ 100 volts output.
